House for a Tree

About This Project

A milled-lumber construction was set around a newly planted tree.  Being in the house with the tree created a palpable connection to nature while opening-up views to more established trees.  It was important to make the house and tree accessible to all – not just to those that can climb.  (Wood, concrete, steel and paint – 2002.  By Joe Self with construction assistance by Tracy Self and Richard Atchison)
